"My boys (8yr & 11yr) love their lessons with Gary. They started from ground zero with him and he had them both playing songs in just a few weeks; family and friends have been impressed with their progress. Part of that success, stems from Gary's ability to choose music that caters to each of their interests, so that they want to practice. The instructional material he supplies and the skills he teaches build each week until the boys have mastered a song. To top it all off, Gary comes to our home! No travel necessary, which is a definite plus for our super busy family."

"I was looking for a guitar teacher for my 13 yr old son who wanted to learn how to play guitar. I loved how Thumbtack came back with 3 options that I might like. I chose Gary Cooper, who's bio fit the best for what I was looking for. I was able to easily communicate with him, working out all details. He is still currently teaching my son, for 5 weeks now, and it is going great. Great teacher! He is really in-tune with my son. He takes the time to find out what my son enjoys, and uses that to teach him. Great experience with both - using Thumbtack and working with Gary."

Gary Cooper has been a very good guitar instructor. Over the course of five or six lessons so far, he has tailored the instruction to my level of experience which wasn't much higher than a beginner after years of not playing. When we started, I wasn't sure what my goals were but after only a couple lessons, he had mapped out a plan based on my skill level and desires that included a basic foundation of music theory and a list of songs and techniques tailored to my situation. I never knew much before about how the scales, keys and chords are related but now the mystery is starting to be cleared up and I'm much more comfortable playing songs with finger position rather than just strumming chords. In a short time, my guitar playing has improved well beyond where I was at my best years ago.
Gary is a very skilled guitar player with a lot of experience. He comes prepared with a specific set of materials for each class but adjusts the lesson on the fly if something else seems more fitting. He has binders of instructional materials that he's put together himself and gives me handouts that I can practice from during the week between lessons. They are really professional and easy to learn from. Also, he has put together files of probably a couple hundred songs that include the chords and his special comments. I've chosen a few of them to start with and he's working with me on those.
I've very happy with the lessons. In a short time, I've gone from not being sure what I was wanting to learn to now knowing what I want to achieve, and having a good idea of how we're going to get there. Also, Gary genuinely enjoys playing and teaching and telling stories of his experiences in the music field which makes the lessons very fun and interactive.
